Tamil Nadu chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswamy has presented A.P.J Abdul Kalam award to S.P Thyagarajan, who was a former vice-chancellor of Madras University and currently professor of eminence and dean of Sri Ramachandra university.
He was credited for discovering a drug for treating Chronic Hepatitis B, it was now patent under the brand name ViroHep. ViroHep was manufactured using Phyllanthus Amrus which popularly known as Keezhanelli in Tamil Nadu.
Kalpana Chawla Award was given to Preethi Srinivasan for setting up a trust called “Soul Free” for people affected with spinal cord injuries.
She is a national level swimmer at age 8 and youngest to play in Tamil Nadu Women’s cricket team. At the age of 18 she met with accident and made her to confine in Wheelchair.
