TNPSC Current Affairs - August 2017 by TNPSC Guru
India announced that both India and China has
agreed to pull back its troop from Doklam and also China has halted its
construction of road on Doklam which spark the issue between both nation. The
move comes ahead of the BRICS summit in China.
Issue
Doklam is a narrow plateau locoated at
tri-junction between India’s Sikkim, Bhutan and China.
It is a disputed territory which was depicted in
Bhutanese Map since 1961 but it also claimed by China as its Territory.
Current issue is because of China’s plan of
constructing road in Doklam Region.
Why India Intervene?
India is not claiming Doklam as its Territory
but supporting Bhutan against China’s construction of Road in Doklam region.
Important reason for intervention:
1.If the road constructed in the disputed area,
it will make Chinese forces closer to the narrow Siliguri Corridor or Chicken’s
Neck of India that connect India’s northeast to the rest of the country. It
will become major security concern for India.
2. As per the 1949 treaty, Bhutan agreed to let
India guide its foreign and defence affairs and in 2007 with new friendship
treaty , that made it mandatory for Bhutan to take India’s guidance on foreign
policy and gave broader sovereignty and also no requirement of India’s
permission for arms imports. So this Made India automatically intervene the
Bhutan ,China’s Border disputes.
