India and Germany has signed an agreement on
technical cooperation under Indo-German Energy Programme-Green Energy Corridors
(IGEN-GEC) with the objective to improve
the conditions for grid integration of renewable energies.
It was signed by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE),
Government of India and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit
(GIZ) GmbH India on behalf of Germany.
Background:
- Power grid corporation of India on July 2012 has submitted a “Transmission plan for envisaged Renewable capacity” to Ministry of New and Renewable Energy which paved the way for India to convert its power system considerable increase in share of renewable energies in energy sector.
- With this agreement both India and Germany will work on improving market mechanisms and regulation for integration of Renewable energies,
- It also helps in advancing technical and institutional conditions in target states and also adding human capacities to handle renewable energies integration in an efficient and effective way.
- This agreement will also help in India’s Green Energy corridors scheme to achieve the 175 GW target of renewable energy generation capacity by 2022, because it requires large scale of grid integration of renewable energy.
