India to host next steering committee of TAPI Project.

India is going to host the next steering committee Meeting of TAPI Pipeline Project. Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline is proposed in 1995 which was in hold due to security issue.

About TAPI project: 

• TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) is a natural gas pipeline project proposed in 1995.
• The project is started in Dec 2015, it was developed with the help of Asian Development Bank.
• The main objective of the pipeline is supply gas from world’s second largest natural gas field of Galkynsyh, Tukmenistan to India.
• The total length of pipeline will be around 1,800 km, it will run across Herat, Kandahar of Afghanistan, Multan of Pakistan and then enter into Fazilka(Punjab) of India.
• It has the capacity to carry 90Million standard cubic meters of day gas for 30yrs. India and Pakistan will get 80% of gas and remaining to Afghanistan.

 Benefits:

Once the project gets completed, it is expected to boost development of  industrial and commercial activities.

It also used as alternative for oil, hence there will be less dependence of oil imports. generation.It also boost the employment opportunity.

Further it likely to improve the relation between India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, which leads to maintain peace in these regions.
