16th September 2017 is celebrated as 23rd World Ozone day and also marked the 30 the anniversary of the Montreal protocol with the theme “Caring for all life under the Sun”.
About Montreal Protocol:
- It is an International treaty to gradually eliminate production and consumption of Ozone Depleting substances (ODS) to limit the damage of Ozone layer.
- Ozone depleting substances like Hydro chlorofluorocarbans (HCFCs), Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), Carbon tetrachloride (CTC) and Halons.
- The agreement was ratified by 197 countries and India ratified the agreement on 1992 to phase out ODCs by 2030.
- This treaty is considered as the most successful International Environment treaty because of its result in protecting Ozone Layer.
