Defence Minister Mantri Flags off Navika Sagar Parikrama

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman flagged off Navika Sagar Parikrama an all women crew from INS Mandovi naval training base, Panaji goa.

The six member women team of Navika Sagar Parikrama will circumnavigate the globe on Indian Navy’s Sailing vessel INSV Tarini. This is the first ever Indian Circumnavigation of the world by an all women team.

About the Expedition :

• The main objective of this expedition is to remove the societal attitude and mindset towards women by raising visibility of their participating in challenging environment and empowerment of women in all fields.
• It also encourages the use of environment friendly non-conventional renewable energy .
• This is India’s first ever all-Women crew will attempt to circumnavigate the globe and expected to return to Goa in April 2018.
• The trip covers in 5 legs with stop overs at 4 ports include Fremantle, Australia; Lyttleton, New Zealand; Port Stanley, Falklands and Cape Town, South Africa.
• During the voyage the team will monitor and report marine pollution on high seas, also collate and update Meteorological, Ocean, and Wave data on a regular basis for accurate weather forecast by Indian Meteorological Department and subsequent analysis by relevant organisation
