The OBC(Other Backward Classes) Income Limit for
Creamy layer has been raised to Rs 8 lakh from 6lakh per annum, as per official
release. The children of persons having income more than Rs 8 lakh per annum
for 3 consecutive years will not get benefit under OBC quota.
About Creamy Layer in OBC:
- Creamy Layer in OBC means, the children of person having income of more than Rs 8 lakh per annum for 3 consecutive years will not get benefit under 27 % of Other backward Class Quota.
- Article 340 of Indian constitution says, to investigate the condition of the socially and educationally backward classes and suggest measures for their advancement, 2nd backward classes commission under the chairmanship of B.P Mandal was appointed in 1979.
- The commission recommended the 27% of reservation for OBC, it was implemented in 1990 by V P Singh government.
- Creamy layer was first introduced in 1993 by kept the limit Rs 1 Lakh and it was raised to 2.5 Lakh in 2004, Rs 4.5 lakh in 2008, Rs 6 lakh in 2013 and 8 lakh in 2017.
