China has urged India to Join the
Belt and Road Initiative and shed objection on China Pakistan Economic Corridor
(CPEC).
China has reiterating that China
Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an economic cooperation and connectivity
project, it will not target any third party and doesn’t involve any territorial
disputes.
Earlier in May India has boycotted the
China’s Belt and Road initiative, objecting to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor
which lay through disputed territory.
About CPEC:
- The China Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC) is a framework of infrastructure project with worth of $46 billion.
- The CPEC will connect China’s Xinjiang province with Gwadar Port in Balochistan , Pakistan.
- The aim of CPEC to deepen the economic ties between both China and Pakistan.
- India’s concern is, CPEC passing through Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir which challenges Indian sovereignty,.
About Belt and Road initiative(BRI)
- China’s Belt and Road initiative(BRI) is to review the Ancient silk road which connects Asian continent with Africa and European continent. It is previously known as One belt and One Road Initiative.
- The project was announced by China’s then president Xi Jinping in 2013.
- The aim of the project is to connect Asian countries with Africa and Europe for Greater trade.
