- Sunderban Reserve Forest is likely to declare as Ramsar site soon.
- Sunderban Reserve forest is a tiger reserve and biosphere reserve in India which spread across 4,260 sq.km with around 2,000 sq.km is mangrove forest and Creeks.
- Sunderban Reserve forest is partly in West Bengal and Bangladesh. It is part of Ganges Delta.
- Sunderbans Mangrove forest is the largest mangrove forest in the world.
- There are currently 26 sites recognised as Ramsar Wetland sites.
About Ramsar Convention:
- Ramsar Convention is an intergovernmental Treaty adopted in 1971 at Ramsar in Iran.
- The objective of treaty is national and international cooperation to conserve and better use of wetlands.
- India joined the treaty on 1982.
