Commission to examine the Sub-Categorization within OBCs.

Union Cabinet has approved for setting up a commission to examine the sub-categorizaion within Other Backward classes (OBCs). The commission was set up under the article 340.

About the commission:

• The commission shall submit its report within 12 weeks of its appointment.
• It will examine the unequal distribution of benefits of reservation among the castes included in OBCs as per the central list.
• It also identify the respective caste,communities, sub-castes, synonyms in the central OBC list and classify then in respective sub-categories.
• Already Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Puducherry, Haryana, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra Nadu have carried out sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes.

About Article 340.

Article 340 of constitution is to investigate the condition of socially and educationally backward classes and suggest measures for their advancement.

President will appoint the commission to investigate the condition of backward classes.
