Central Government has informed that Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment had submitted its report on Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill of 2016 and the report was under consideration to Madras High Court.
About Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2016:
- The bill aimed to empower transgender in the field of Education, economic empowerment, social justice.
- It defines the transgender as one who is partly male or female or a combination of male and female or neither male nor female.
- It also says that transgender must obtain the identity of proof for identifying them as Transgender person.
- It prohibits any discrimination against transgender in the field of Education, employment, and others.
- There is stringent punishment including 2 or more years of imprisonment for any offences against them
