President Appoints Commission to Examine Sub Categorization of OBC.

President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Commission to Examine Sub Categorization of other Backward classes under the power conferred by Article 340. It will ensure more backwards among OBC Communities to get more benefits of reservation for education and Government Jobs.

The commission comprise of Chairperson – Justice (retired) G.Rohini and 4 other members.

About Article 340 and the commission

• Article 340 of Indian constitution says, to investigate the condition of the socially and educationally backward classes and suggest measures for their advancement.
• The commission will examine the inequitable distribution of benefits of reservation among the castes included among the OBC
• The commission will also work out the mechanism , criteria, norms and parameters in a scientific approach for sub-categorisation within such OBCs
• The commission will also identify the respective castes or communities or sub-castes or synonym in the central list of OBC and classify them into respective sub-categories.
