Cabinet approves establishment of International Training Centre for Operational Oceanography in Hyderabad.

Union Cabinet has given its nod for establishing International  Training Centre for Operational Oceanography as category 2 center of UNESCO in Hyderabad.

The main objective of establishing the center is to give training towards development of capacity for the countries on Indian Ocean Rim, border African countries of Indian and Atlantic Oceans and the small islands under UNESCO.

The Center will study the ocean and give information to Fisherman, disaster management team, shipping industries, Navy, environment and others for their daily operations.

It will give training , knowledge sharing, exchange of information, assistance to the member countries

India’s Benefit:

• UNESCO’s category 2 center will provide opportunity to India to emerge as leading country in Indian Ocean, it helps improving relationship with countries bordering Indian Ocean.
• This center will helps to build technical and management capacity to address the marine issues and also can react efficiently during natural hazards.
• It also helps Union Government’s goal of achieving SDG-14 (Sustainable Development Goal-14 )Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development)
• Center will also help to improve student’s skill and increase employment opportunity.
