- Central Government has constituted Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to address the dispute in sharing Cauvery water between Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.
- The authority which comprises of chairman and eight members.
- The Chairman should be either senior and eminent engineer with experience of water resource mangament or IAS officer with experience in water resource management.
- The Authority will work and share the 404.25 tmcft of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and 284.75 tmc ft to Karnataka , 30 tmc ft to Kerala and 7 tmc ft to Puduchery ordered by Supreme court.
About River Cauvery.
- River Cauvery originated in Kudagu district of Karnataka in Brahmagiri Hills at Talakaveri.
- River Cauvery forms 3 islands, 2 in Karnataka called Sivasamudram and Srirangapatnam and Srirangam in Tamil Nadu.
- The main Tributaries are Kabini, Bhavani, Arkavathy, Lakshmana Tirtha, Noyyal, Shimsa, lokapavani, Harangi, Hemavati and Arkavati.
- It is the third largest river in south India after Godavari and Krishna.
- The total length of river is 765 KM.
